As opposed to the specialized view as an internist, I rather consider what can be pointed out as relevant in my professional practice is the integration of internal medicine with the basic sciences in the area of neuropharmacology, neurochemistry and neuroimmunology.
This integration allows a more complex and coherent vision of the way the different body systems are organized around a biological director, seldom studied in medical schools: the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) and its associated structures (Reticular Activating System – RAS – and pairs of cranial nerves).
The malfunctioning of these neuronal structures that coordinate the functions of the body, as well as birth differences in relation to the ANS and the RAS which one patient can exhibit in regard to another, also determine treatment differences. In neuropharmacology, I call it individual therapeutic design. The integration of knowledge allows a therapeutic approach aimed at addressing both the consequences of the disease and its causes or aggravating factors within the ANS and the RAS.
I have been involved in the development of new therapeutic designs for multiple conditions and diseases for almost two decades. I have contributed with my work to research papers in high scientific level international publications, in the area of neuropharmacology and neuroimmunology, as a member of the multidisciplinary group in the Institute of Experimental Medicine of the medical school of the UCV (Central University of Venezuela).
Among the various conditions I have specialized my work on, those worth mentioning in a special way are: Myasthenia gravis, migraine, convulsive syndrome, multiple sclerosis, trigeminal neuralgia, benzodiazepine and alcohol addictions, sleep disorders, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, attention disorders, aggressiveness, compulsivity, rheumatic diseases, neuroenteric axis disorders, irritable bowel syndrome, etc.
